Professor Dr. Mohammad Masud Karim was born in Dhalai Union of Hathazari Upazilla in Chittagong District. After completion of his primary he was admitted in Katir Hat High School where he was first boy and completed his SSC in 1986. Then he admitted Hajji Mohammad Mohsin Government College, Chittagong from where he completed his HSC in 1988 with distinction. Then he admitted in Rangpur Medical College. He stood 6th (6th stand) in first professional examination, 1st (1st stand) in second professional examination and 1st (1st stand) in third/final professional examination under Rajshahi University. He was academically awarded as ‘Gold Medalist’ by same university.

He owned A K Khan Gold Medal and Agrani Bank Gold Medal. He also awarded from BARD (Cumilla) for distinction in Foundation Training. After completion of his Internship in 1996 from Rangpur Medical college Hospital he joined Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission as Medical Officer and posted in Sylhet M A G Osmani Medical College Center. After completion of his FCPS and MS part-I he joined in BIRDEM hospital and trained under Professor Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, renowned laparoscopic surgeon.

Then he trained in Casualty department of Dhaka Medical College for about four years. He also worked as an assistant registrar of Urology under Professor M A Salam, world renowned urologist in Banga Bandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He joined in government service in 2001 after qualified in 20th BCS. Then he trained in Chittagong Medical College under Professor Margub Hossain, legendary professor of surgery. He completed his FCPS in Surgery in January 2004 from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and promoted as junior consultant of surgery in that year. Then he went to Singapore and completed his fellowship in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Liver Transplant Surgery from National University Hospital (NUH) under the mentorship of Professor John Isaac. He came back home and joined in Chittagong Medical College as Consultant of Surgery. In the meantime, he also completed his master’s course in Urology in Chittagong Medical College. He also completed fellowship in Colorectal surgery from Tulane University Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. He also completed his fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) from India. He was honored with FRCS by Royal College of Glasgow, UK. He was promoted as assistant professor in 2013 and worked in Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

He was promoted as Associate Professor of Surgery in 2017 and posted in Noakhali Medical College. After a year he transferred to Chittagong Medical College. He was promoted as professor of surgery in 2022 and posted in Cumilla Medical College. After a year and half he once again transferred to Chittagong Medical College. Currently he is working as Professor and Head in the department of surgery of Chittagong Medical College and Hospital. He is also appointed as first Dean in the faculty of surgery in Chittagong Medical University. He is highly involved in academic activities of Chittagong Medical College and Chittagong Medical University. He is academically intimately related with Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) and Bangobondu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). He is a popular teacher among the graduate and post-graduate students. He participated and presented papers in national and international conferences and visited about fifty countries around the world. He has many publications in home and abroad. He is a life member of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), Society of Surgeons of Bangladesh (SOSB), Society of laparoscopic surgeons of Bangladesh (SLSB), Endo Laparoscopic surgeons of Asia (ELSA), Society of American Gastro Intestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), Chittagong Doctors Club (CDC), Chittagong Officers Club (COC) and Chittagong Club Ltd (CCL) etc. He is taking care of his private patient at Chevron Clinical Lab Pvt. Ltd. at Panchlaish Chittagong. His wife is Dr. Moshammat Zebunnesa, Gynecologist and Infertility specialist working as Associate Professor in Chittagong Medical College Hospital and doing her private practice at Chevron and Medical Centre Hospital. He is blessed by Allah with son Jawad Karim and daughter Jaima Karim. Both are studying in Chittagong Grammar School (CGS).
